FAQs - Technical Support
Why won't my password work?
The serial number is case sensitive and can be found on a sticker in the binder that your software came in (labeled either Understanding Math or Understanding Numeration). The B is entered as an uppercase letter (capital) and all the dashes must be included (see Installation Manual pg. 3).
What is the default Administrator login?
The default log in name is "Administrator" and the password is "umath".
Why can't I choose Spanish in the Language menu in Understanding Numeration?
If you have purchased Understanding Numeration English/Spanish you need to enter your Activation Code to enable Spanish. This is not your Serial Number. The following instructions are also included in the sleeve of the binder: Once the installation is completed you can activate the Spanish portion of the program. To do this, run the installed Understanding Numeration 2008 program. At the main menu select the "Preferences" tab at the bottom of the menu and then click "Program Configuration". Enter the Administrator Login ID: "administrator" and password: "umath". Select the "Activate" button at the bottom of the next screen. Enter your "Activation Code". This code can be found on a sticker labeled "Activation Code" in the Software Package folder. (This is not the same as the installation serial number that was used to install the program which was located on a sticker labeled "Understanding Numeration") When you have entered a correct serial number a green check mark will appear. Press the "Ok" button. Press the "Save" button at the bottom of the Program Configuration menu. The option to toggle between English and Spanish is now enabled.
What is the difference between using the Progress Tracking and Management Utility (PTMU) as a teacher or as the administrator?
Logging into the PTMU using the Administrator account lets you create new student profiles (either from a file or individually), as well as manage Teacher accounts (see Installation Manual pg. 8-12). Logging into the PTMU as a Teacher enables you to create classes from the available list of students (added by the Administrator), and view student progress (see Progress Tracking and Management Utility Manual).
If my students exist in the program why can't I see their results after they complete a test?
Make sure that the Students Record path is valid. You can check this in the Program Configuration screen available in Understanding Math, Understanding Numeration or the PTMU (see Installation Manual pg. 7). If the path is correct then make sure that the TestData folder has read and write permissions for students (see Installation Manual pg. 5). Note: The "share" permissions to the actual server will override "file" permissions. Make sure students are given appropriate permissions to access the server so they can write to the TestData folder.
I get an error message when I try to import students in the PTMU
You might be logged into a computer as a user that does not have write permissions to the TestData folder. Read and write permissions should be given to all users on the TestData folder.
